EFT

What is emotional freedom technique and why is it used in hypnotherapy?

Emotional freedom technique or commonly known as tapping, is linked to the meridians and acupuncture points of the body. Whilst tapping on the meridian points and focussing on the issue at hand with appropriate words and phrases, the Crucial Critical Factor in the brain is bypassed. The CCF is the gate way if you like between your conscious and subconscious mind and it decides what new belief the subconscious mind will and will not accept. In hypnotherapy we use relaxation techniques to help bypass the CCF and also in relaxation the mind is in the all- important Alpha wave: the sponge if you like of information in the brain.

I teach my clients tapping techniques in my clinic to help re-enforce the positive suggestions made in hypnotherapy especially should the client repeatedly encounter the negative triggers that evoke the emotional response they are wanting to avoid.

When we encounter stressful and emotional events the activity of the amygdala in the brain increases and response the event and warns the rest of the body of the danger. What EFT does is calms down the amygdala and the next time a stressful event occurs then the response is not so heightened.

You might argue that the hypnotherapy should be doing this and there is no need for EFT, however, should a client come in, for instance, if they are in a relationship that is connected to a narcissist that is continual, then that environment is a lot for the hypnotherapy to try and resolve the response of the client and they changes the client desires. A little more help may be needed and here is where EFT can play a role.
